Personal Effectiveness

A. Software

  1. Nova-Mind Mind Mapping Software - an excellent tool that allows you to rapidly brainstorm any topic, record the contents (in real time) of a meeting, teleconference or any other session in which important information is being shared, project plan any event or strategy you are working on (including assigning resources - using Nova-Mind Platinum Edition), and so much more. I use it for much of my learning and recording. You will see some of the mind maps I have created using the software throughout my blog posts.

B. Books

  1. Getting Things Done: The Art of Stress-Free Productivity by David Allen (2001) - this is an excellent book that provides what I believe is an excellent approach to simplifying your personal and professional life. I personally apply his theories and practial methods and have saved at least one (1) hour per day. With a wife and two kids waiting for me at home on some late evenings, that is priceless.
  2. Total Workday Control Using Microsoft Outlook by Michael Linenberger (2006) - if you’re like me and rely heavily on Microsoft (R) Outlook to run your day AND you find David Allen’s book, Getting Things Done, worthy of application, this book is an absolute must. It will show you exactly how to setup Microsoft Outlook so that you begin running your day in accordance with David Allen’s teachings. I used to have 2,000+ emails sitting in my inbox at any one time. Although I had a system for recording and listing my “to do” tasks, Michael Linenberger showed me a much better way. I still use this system today and enjoy a completely empty inbox every day and with one click of the print button in Outlook, I have my whole day planned out.
  3. How Would Love Respond? by Kurek Ashley (2008) - I was fortunate to have met the author, Kurek Ashley, in late 2008. Kurek is a personal development “guru” who absolutely walks his talk, even when things don’t go quite to plan. Kurek sets out his life’s journey in the early chapters and shows you in the remainder of the book a number of very practical and  powerful steps and techniques to help you achieve the same.
